The concept can be extended to include any area within the existing King County Metro Bus area.

The idea is that you use existing assets, existing bus lines, and re-deploy them in such a way that they operate more like a subway system than a bus system. This means that stops are from a quarter to a half mile from each other and the bus comes every 7 to 10 minutes from 6:00 am in the morning to at least 9:00 pm in the evening.

Existing local routes would remain and would be re-deployed, if necessary, to feed the Fast and Frequent system. There is more explanation in the text portions of the map below.

For example, the bomb threat on New Year’s Eve – which resulted in the #49 being totally rerouted – was an example of the updates working (though the information contained within was not thoroughly useful); but a previous weekend had a major trolley outage on upper Capitol Hill stranding the #10 and #43 buses for hours with nary a peep from Metro.

What are your thoughts on metro’s customer communications lately?
