Our Transit Riders Union is working to improve public transit by building a powerful voice that represents all transit riders in the Metropolitan Puget Sound region.
We believe public transit should:
- effectively connect people and places.
- be a practical option for as many people as is possible.
- be convenient, safe, comfortable, easy, pleasant, affordable, efficient, predictable, and equitable.
To achieve this vision, we will unite and empower our riders while advocating for:
- comfortable, safe, and convenient buses, bus stops, and transfer station facilities
- better communication between transit agencies and the public
- changes that make it easier for new riders to use transit
- public oversight and local control of transit service
- regionally coordinated policies, information services, and routes
- leveraging technology to make transit more usable
- transit signal priority and dedicated right-of-way in congested corridors
- flexible and simple bike ‘n ride facilities
- adaptation of ‘rail transit’ amenities to our bus system
- rider review of transit vehicles and interior prior to purchase
- rail and bus rapid transit that makes sense
- cooperation between transit agencies, drivers, and riders
- education and enforcement of yield-to-transit laws (RCW 46.61.220)
- tracking service improvements based on service effectiveness metrics
In the long-term, we will represent thousands of transit riders throughout the Puget Sound area.
Do you have ideas for how transit service could be improved in the Puget Sound area? We’re listening.
